Yes I took the plunge and started using Twitter as well. I already got an account since 2007 but only started to use Twitter frequently now. It’s very often just more convenient and timesaving to use Twitter than making a blog post via Wordpress.
Since there are fine applications like twhirl, which uses Adobe Air, to tweet from your desktop it’s an ease to publish. Even better, there are lots of Twitter applications for mobile phones, especially the iPhone, that work very well so that you can update your status, i.e. publish on Twitter from everywhere!
In combination with FriendFeed you can have updates you made somewhere else – Flickr, YouTube, your blog, Google Reader, Facebook etc. – being automatically submitted to Twitter.
I think in future we will see a complete synchronisation of all data. We are almost there, but it’s still not simple to accomplish. Crossposting and synchronisation will simplify modern socializing and publishing a lot.
FriendFeed can do much but it can’t post all updates on Wordpress. Though as I mentioned above, FriendFeed can publish updates from various services on Twitter. Now to have all that stuff also appear on your Wordpress blog you’ll have to use a plugin called Twitter Tools. It can fetch all your Tweets and post each as post on your blog or, what I have chosen, as daily digest, tho weekly digest is also possible. But note: what you don’t want is a feedback loop between FriendFeed posting your blog posts to Twitter and Twitter Tools posting your Tweets to Wordpress. To avoid this, just create a new user for Twitter Tools and exclude that user on FriendFeed by selecting the multiple authors option for your blog.
If you are using Second Life then you might want to try Twitterbox:
As it says above, Twitterbox is an object which enables one to post to and receive updates fromTwitter, when inside Second Life.
SLtweets, doing the same job, is a Heads UP Display that enables you to communicate with the outside world via Twitter from within Second Life.
I haven’t tested any of Twitter tools for Second Life, by the way.
What just came to my mind while writing this post, one of the things I’d like to see now is being able to tweet my current location or have it appear everywhere in real time
