Although it continues to face criticism from European privacy authorities about Street View, that hasn’t stopped Google from adding features to the service. The latest to launch is a kind of user-generated layer to Street View that uses photos uploaded by individuals to create a pseudo-3D panorama of a specific spot. Although there aren’t going to be enough user photos to do this for every site or building, it’s an additional way to get different perspectives on popular landmarks.

I’ve only just registered at friendfeed.com and already love it! Finally a useful meta-tool that combines a lot of publishing services.

FriendFeed enables you to keep up-to-date on the web pages, photos, videos and music that your friends and family are sharing. It offers a unique way to discover and discuss information among friends.

It basically is an aggregator that enables you to create a central place for people to check and discuss the latest updates from various of your accounts of services that you are using to publish information. Additionally you can add some information manually. Right now there are 59 services you can add including Flickr, YouTube, Google Reader, Facebook, Twitter and of course your personal blog. Adding accounts or news sources that do not belong to you is also possible.

People can then subscribe to your friendfeed via RSS, instant messaging notifications (Google Talk) or view any updates in real-time on the site.

There are many more features like private rooms and widgets to embed friendfeed on your website, just check it out.

I’ve started using Picasa recently. Version 3.1 is really sweet, it’s so easy to upload photos to Picasa Web or videos to YouTube using it! Althought the import function and folder structure is very poor compared to Lightroom, it is free and it can handle all my photos and videos (>450k) and still run smooth. The Face detection future is also neat.

So check out my Picasa Web Album which I will be using alongside Flickr:

Don’t expect photographic ambitious photos tho, I’ll just use it for miscellaneous images.

This morning by chance my dad saw a car labeled with the Google logo and mounted with various cameras and technical equipment in front of our house when leaving. A few meters and seconds later he took this and other photos out of his car:

Google Sreetview Car in Germany

Google Streetview Car

I wonder when this data will go online. But what strikes me most is that Google does this at all in Germany, since I’m sceptic that they have any chance winning all those lawsuits this will provoke. There are just too many people that have problems with this for some reason and our law isn’t very liberal when it comes to privacy concerns either.

P.S.
Unfortunately you cannot see the Google logo since it was on the driver’s side.
